  1. After reading This is Gonna Suck, I think I might hate Kurdt Cobain. 1/5. Not a good script, not a good story.

  2. Jeff Who Lives at Home is probably the best Duplass brother's movie thus far.

Definitely their broadest and most accessible film. Thought the last half of the third act was their best work to date. Definitely altered from the initial script I read.

That said, it was a pretty big departure from their mumblecore beginnings. Saw it at AFF last fall. Crowd dug it.

I'm glad they're getting away from the mumblecore. Quiet City (not them, but in that genre) is awful.

  3. Hey United Kingdom people, what's the best way to go from Dublin to London and back again? Looking for suggestions :)

Coach (bus) cheapest or Ryan Air (cattle truck of the sky) for cheapo flights

Flying if you don't care about seeing what you're flying over. There's also Virgin Rail which is about 60% less hellish than a coach trip.

Thanks! It's just a quick flyover from Dublin to London, will only be in London for a day, then back to Dublin for a flight back to AZ. :D

  4. My review of Hellbound is up in the Member Reviews section. Check it out!

  5. We didn't win, but were happy to be in the top 20 at T3F. Here's out short. Let me know what you think! http://vimeo.com/37072239

Thank you. It was my first 48 hour film festival and I've definitely learned a lot from the experience. Thanks for the honest feedback, this is thick skin :)

  6. Sorry for the delay, my review of They Repair Us by S. Craig Zahler is up in the Member Review section!

  7. Sweet! A short I wrote, directed, wrote the music for and did the camerawork for is top 20 in the Almost Famous 48 hour Film Fest! It'll be shown on the big screen Thursday!!

  8. My latest review is in. The Sellout by Daniel Lee. More reviews are on their way!

I am on page 46 and it is just flat so far... going to jump in and read your review

  9. Going to start being more consistent with script reviews. Please script suggests or I'll just do random ones with no loglines :) (Still want to do what Cyber suggested with breaking down Lethal Weapon).

Charlie Brown, how you doin'!? Good to see you still here - I'm back after a long hiatus, though I'm still focusing on some other things right now, and will be for the next several months, but at least I'm back as a browser, a TB voyeur of sorts... :-)

Hey Charlie! Well it's been pretty much on hold since last summer - I started working at Apple (I'm now an Expert at an Apple retail store) and the majority of my weekly time has been going toward that gig, plus I'm now doing search engine marketing with a great company, working as a freelancer of sorts, so I've been incredibly busy. I had actually moved forward with a small group of people toward making an animated full-length version of the script, but that has since bee...

  10. I got my coverage back. Feeling pretty damn good about. Tons to think about. I can't recommend the service enough to you guys. Will definitely use again!

Trick with this one is I don't think it hit the town wide as a spec. Seems like an in house set up at Energy.

I said "pretty" good. Not amazing :D. I was hoping for much more scary moments, it felt a little too...planned if you will. Also, I think it might be trying to be Lost...

    4. mikeyP_73

      mikeyP_73

I saw the original cut and I wasn't too impressed. I think it's hard to capture that scared in a movie theatre experience with all the lights shut out feeling... and all the POV / Found Footage camera angles/setups seemed to blah

  13. Has anyone read The Counselor?

  14. My God. Sometimes you get a script that you gotta read...and you crack it open and it's like...WordPerfect format...

  16. Started a chit chat about Indie films. Would love to hear some input!

Instead of paying for coverage have you thought of joining a writing group? I'd love to start one in LA with members of the board if anyone's interested.

      jessefoxchaney

writer's groups are tricky. i've been in a few, and the experience can be extremely helpful, but can also quickly devolve into "too many cooks in the kitchen."

I don't actually live in LA ClapYourKnees (yet), but based off of your recommendation, I'll see if there's any local ones in my area!

  19. Reading Inglesby's Run All Night (Thank you shaky :D) I don't remember Low Dweller (other than loving it) but Brad gets away with being very novelish in his descriptions...

Didn't get Low Dweller, thought it was derivative and the characters didn't do anything for me. Seen this story a million times.

Thought it was written pretty dang well... :D

  20. Saw the trailer for Detachment today. Looks CRAZY. Has anyone seen it?

    1. specwriter

      specwriter

Why does it look crazy? You mean crazy good, since it has such an amazing cast? This wasn't on my radar, good to see Tony Kaye back (as I'm a big Amer History X fan). http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/independent/detachment/

    2. Nic.Lishko

      Nic.Lishko

      crazy good, yes.

  21. Perhaps I'll use a Death Cab for Cutie song title as my next spec title. Seems legit/like a good idea.

    1. Penelope

      Penelope

It's a great idea and would be better than most of the crap titles that sold last year.

Title and Registration and A Lack of Color both sound great to me.

  22. 3rd draft is so close to being done. Gotta determine who I send it to for review...Kind of a toss up between scriptshadow and tracking board...

I totally agree and that's why I chose to use him. He's a screenwriter as well and probly won't be doing coverage much longer since he's close to getting a few big projects moving. He posts over on Done Deal as EvilRbt and his site is screenplaymechanic.com. If you want, I could send you a sample of the last coverage he did for me that really helped when I rewrote the script.

  23. This morning I learned that drinking during a 3rd draft rewrite clouds judgement. Gin should be drank during first drafts only!

I would think - first draft, a celebratory drink at the end, second draft drinking all the way through because everything now feels so wrong, and third draft a celebratory drink at the beginning for getting there :-)
