  1. Hey hive mind. Trying to put together a list of films that fall into the Seven Samurai/Magnificent 7/Yojimbo mold of hired pros who come to the aid of regular people/villagers. I have the usual suspects (Bugs Life, 3 Amigos, Equalizer) but I'd love some more recommends. Thanks!

  2. Looking for something to read. Any recs for decent specs from this year?

It was the first Netflix flick I've seen where I wish I could've seen it on the big screen

  6. TBS comedy execs are running laps around HBO these days. What happened?

I think the problem is Lena Dunham is what HBO thinks is funny.

  7. Finally saw HOT SUMMER NIGHTS last night, and must admit I was really let down after loving the script. That being said, I do hope Elijah gets a chance to make MISSISSIPPI MUD. Curious to anyone else's thoughts.

I try not to hate, but boy did I hate that ending of that script.

  9. What are some of the biggest changes you've seen from script to screen?

I've heard The Low Dweller was drastically changed. I also remember loving the read on GI JOE, but the movie was...different

  10. Wasn't a big fan of Grand Budapest, but Isle of Dogs is fantastic. Moves much faster than other Anderson flicks

Networking, networks, management, strong script. Probably that order.

  13. Only a few months late... Boy, were you guys right about The Last Jedi! WTF? Why can't anyone seem to write a smart, fun, exciting Star Wars script anymore?? None of it really makes sense and it's not even half as clever as it should be. Diminishing returns all around.

I really enjoyed the Last Jedi. I can't defend the casino planet and there were some other minor things I didn't enjoy, but overall I thought it was awesome.

Well alright then. When I get back from LA next week, I'll start planning out a One Pilot, one feature a month discussion thingy. We'll see how it goes

To start, I'd be happy doing a script of the month discussion thread. I'll be busy shooting a web series towards the end of the year, but I want to read as much as I can in the meantime.

  18. However you felt about it, Netflix dropping a trailer for The Colverfield Paradox during the super bowl and saying it starts playing after the game is a HUGE game changer. I hope they do that every year.

For sure, Andrew. Still, I'm excited to see what they do next. I don't expect a new Cloverfield movie every year, but shoot, next year (if this happens again) the content will knock it out of the park.

  22. What age did you start writing? I mean actually writing scripts, in screenplay format?

  23. Any screenwriters interested in doing a group NaNoWriMo except for screenplays? I would propse an Outline October and then we go full scale attack in November. I gotta a feature that's itchin to get written...

  24. This is your quarterly reminder to back up all of your writing files! Cloud, jump drive, external HD, etc. Do it now!
