  2. Excited! My horror-thriller just made it to the top 10 at Austin and top 25 at Page in its category. Hope to see some of you in Austin.

  3. Anyone attending Great American Pitch Fest? Anyone have any experiences with this one or Inktip?

I found a writer there, signed her and sold her script and it was shot for tv and airs pretty much every Christmas. She didn't make a ton of money but she got a valuable credit and experience.

  4. Congrats to Michael Perri for landing a staff writing position!

  5. Writing a script where you have a character based on someone you know in real life (but you think you've disguised that fact)? This $3 million dollar lawsuit might change your mind: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/thr-esq/screenwriter-sued-making-henry-james-697876

  7. Really not sure how to feel about American Hustle. On one hand, I admire the theme of the story and the ambition of the storytelling; on the other hand, it feels like a hot mess and is just not as satisfying as it should be.

  11. Say you have a character who is stuttering. Do you write the dialogue like he's stuttering or do you leave a note and let the actors do their job?

    1. Babzbitela

      Babzbitela

it's hard on the eyes and I have seen it as "Christian: he stutters" and the dialog is as written so it's at director's discretion.

  12. Clocking in at 89 pages, the fastest first draft I've ever done for my first Horror/Thriller. It's not great by any means, but hoorah, it's done. FOR NOW.

  13. I think I'm using the term PRELAP wrong? I'm using it for a VO that starts before that scene begins. Is that correct?

      Babzbitela

Mike made me see how PRELAP can work. I loved seeing it in his scripts. very cool. put me right in the moment - my nickel's worth.

  14. for dialogue-- I'm trying to think of a situation where the training is worse/more grueling than the actual thing that's being trained for. Any ideas?

  15. Apparently foreign distributors are really interested in the horror thriller spec I've been working on this summer and want the script ASAP. Has anyone else had to rush write a script before?

  16. Question: I'm looking for screenplays in the vein of Roman Polanski's Repulsion: relatively contained, psychological horror/thrillers with small casts. Also any movies you can suggest similar to Repulsion? Psycho and Black Swan came to mind though they aren't exactly like Repulsion they do exist in a similar plane (main character struggling to maintain their sense of sanity/losing their sanity, etc. Thanks!

  17. I know - late to the party here and basically saying the same thing others have said, but -- thank you Gravity. Best movie experience of the year so far.

  18. "Gravity" was simply beautiful.

  19. Favor Request: I just dropped into W-I-P a writing sample I was thinking of using to approach tv lit agents. If you have 10 minutes, can you read and let me know thoughts? Happy to provide feedback on others' projects as well.

  20. Check out my blog on the site. Hasn't had many readers. I'm thinking about tracking what it's like to write your first screenplay!
