  1. Just saw the best pilot I have ever seen. Wow. Wow. Lifetime achievement type work. Shame it'll never air. Amazing.

      Solid pilot for sure.

They should broadcast it as a one-off anyway. In memory of.. Hate to think that work is wasted.

Hopefully it will leak like other pilots in the past.

  2. Can anyone grab Bitter Script Reader's script? Love to see it.

Thanks, Rob. I wasn't sure how it worked. But seriously, would a true industry pro take the time to read and rate a script, not any of the pros I know. We barely find the time to get together for our weekend flag football games anymore.

      Jaco

No problem. Interesting question. Because of the anonymity of the Pros on the BL site, there's no way to "weigh" the score given. Meaning - score could have been given by a writer who's been given access to the BL site, could be an intern who has her boss's ID and password to the site, or could be a heavy weight agent/manager/producer.

Thanks, Rob. That provides a better understanding.

  3. Watching True Detective is like watching someone bleed onto the page and screen. Just amazing work.

I have mild issue with the pacing, but it gets better with every episode. I'm sad the opening credits will change next season.

    3. Pompalompa

      Pompalompa

^I think that's a large part of it. The fact that it started so slow lowered our expectations of the pace and now at its current stage it seems to be firing on all cylinders.

There's a quote from the book KING IN YELLOW that feels pretty apropos to the slow start: "The very banality and innocence of the first act only allowed the blow to fall afterward with more awful effect."

There is one some of the members here kicked off earlier this year, but in early 2014 we will be launching an official one alongside the stages of new site releases.

  5. Fact: if film schools had acting classes for aspiring directors and writers, their films would be much better. Fact.

I couldn't make it through the 1st episode, though I recognize the quality of acting & direction. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood to watch 8 hours of something so dark.

    4. DonKasparoza

      DonKasparoza

I was bugged out at the end of the other episode when the guy comes out in a gas mask with a machete. Not the kind of guy you want to run into in a back alley lol. Great show.

  7. Very few films truly have impact. American Sniper is having a frickin' IMPACT. Crazy. Rightly or wrongly.

Seeing it tonight because that's what a friend wants to see. I hope to judge it as just a movie, not a political Rorshach test.

    3. Scott Crawford

      Scott Crawford

The success of American Sniper will make it easier for everyone to sell more serious fare. And not just AS - Fury, Unbroken, The Imitation Game... there's an appetite out there for stories about heroes, all sorts of heroes, who don't necessarily have superpowers.

    4. benskelly2

      benskelly2

Hope that's true, Scott. Certainly seems to be a trend of old-style "adult" films now that gives me hope. As for AS, it's not perfect, not even a great film, but it's pretty well made (fake baby aside). The combat scenes are very effective and Cooper & Miller do excellent work. And if I have mixed feelings...well, films SHOULD start arguments and debates.

  8. I'm not always the biggest Bradley Cooper fan, but he was terrific in American Sniper.

The trailers make it look excellent, why is it so bad? I'm a Leftie, but I have to say the reactions to this movie seem to be very politically motivated. Can't watch anything on a military subject without that polarization now.

    4. mnml

      mnml

Agreed. He was fantastic. Aside from one's stance on the war in general, the film was devoid of any political narrative. Thought the missions/action felt a bit too much like a video game, but all-in-all I thought it was well done.

  9. Does anyone know how to change the apostrophe style in FD? I hate that it's slanted. So ugly, man.

  12. Does anyone read screenplays on a six-inch Kindle? Trying to help my eyes with the reduced light. How is it? Worth the money?

    2. joe_gillis

      joe_gillis

Yes, I use Briss to crop and then turn it sideways to read. I wouldn't buy a regular kindle to read script, though. I mainly use it for books.

    3. Coz

      Coz

Interesting. Do you see the full page on the six-inch?

    4. joe_gillis

      joe_gillis

No, nowhere near a full page but it's surprisingly not much of a problem. I was thinking about buying a tablet to read scripts before trying with the Kindle and although not as good it meets my needs.

I think the TB guys requested they do not sure pilots at this time - while they work to get them out there selectively to the judges, etc.
