  1. So far Robert Zemekis is looking quite the foreseer. :) GO CUBS!

  2. The plus and minus regarding the MR. ROBOT pilot (now streaming on USA network.com) The plus: intelligent, well told, very well acted, smartest show on TV The minus: intelligent, the smartest show on TV. Just like Rubicon, too smart for the American public, and that's a damn shame.

By the way, the 2004 "reunion" with Sammy Hagar played 80 dates, not 50. Those 80 dates grossed $50 Million. Only 3 years later, Van Halen's tour with Roth played only 76 dates and grossed $93 Million.

For further comparison of the publics interest in real Van Halen, see the above mentioned Louisville, Kentucky date, then find the numbers for the bands return to that same city with the correct singer: 2/18/2012 KFC Yum! Center Louisville, KY 17048 of 17048 (100%) for a gross of $1,544,983.00. (The above mentioned date with Hagar grossed $327,979.00)

Let's start debating how much Smashmouth grosses on tour with and without the fat guy with the soul patch.

  5. Netflix is kicking ass in the original department. Rotisserie Chicken is a brilliant work of art. It's Benjamin Button meets Kitchen Nightmare. :)

Yeah, it's not on there anymore. There was another one on there too, an action thriller titled, Sizzling Bacon. And that's exactly what it was.

  6. The writing part seems the easy part in this industry when compared to searching for bridge money and investors. There's a reason I like to be alone in a room with nothing but my coffee/Guinness, keyboard and mindspace.

Friend of mine who just got repped was telling me about one of his specs going out.

Said that pretty much you either go the studio route where they'll most likely want to do a bunch of rewrites or you go independent and have to try to find the money yourself.

The latter of course being more difficult if you're short on connections.

I'm pretty ignorant on this part of movie-making, are there more options than this?

    2. craktactor

      craktactor

The options are limited. This one I'm involved with is a US/Irish/UK co-production. That makes it even more "fun". But six weeks in Dublin in the summer is going to be a blast.

    3. ... who are those guys?

      ... who are those guys?

No matter what you're probably doing rewrites unless you are directing and producing it yourself.

  7. Congrats to Andrew Parker for the "Worth the Read" today from Carson @ SS.

Excellent! Just popped over and read the SS review now.

  8. The lack/snub? of names and films this year is mindnumbingly confusing. I mean, The Book Thief gets one nom, original score (John Williams)? Michael B. Jordan gets nada? I guess this IS the most subjective industry.

Would have liked to see some love for Short Term 12, but knew there wouldn't be any. Only surprise to me is Christian Bale over Tom Hanks. Would have liked Spike Jonze to get a Best Director nod.

LOL Ejiofor is one of my favorite actors! It's just, for me, Fassbender and Nyong'o were AMAZING in 12 Years. Kinda overshadowed him IMO. His wasn't the best performance in that film.

I'm a bit surprised Prisoners didn't pick up anything other than cinematography.

  9. Just an FYI, people... after I win the lottery toonight I'll be immediately going into film funding/producing mode. Just thought I'd get that out there.

  10. Much thanks to Kristen and Ted for the clickity-clicking. All the TB Colors for, well, being you. And a special congrats to Mr. Dollar for making both lists (equally of import). And to each and every member here, may the coming year find you all safe, sane-ish, and as near to your dreams as you can be. :)

Flipping through the script has me wanting to rewatch it. It's so raw, and my memory of the film is that it was too, and it's just kind of the beginning of it all. Maybe nostalgia, but I think it fucking rocks!
