  8. On the job hunt, my bills will thank you for any leads

  9. My script, Mother, is being featured on the Black List site! Glad to see the rewrites paid off. Hoping the rest of the year is as great for everyone!

  10. Really not sure how to feel about American Hustle. On one hand, I admire the theme of the story and the ambition of the storytelling; on the other hand, it feels like a hot mess and is just not as satisfying as it should be.

sbbn is right about the "band wagon" effect. I'd take it a step further and say that social media has made the band wagon more like Noah's Arc. No one LOVING the movie has actually said what they loved, aside from "great acting, etc." Just curious.

Here are a couple of my So Fucking Whats…Christian Bale was bald and fat. Bradley permed his hair. Amy just wanted to be loved for real. JLaw was so NOT Katniss Everdeen and Renner's Goombah Liberace was hard to watch.

I'm often disappointed by movies that fetishize the "look" and "feel" of the '70's without capturing any of the raw, renegade, originality of '70's cinema. Not drinking the Kool Aid on this one either.

  13. I know I haven't been around much lately, but I never seem to catch the moment when people are in chat anymore. So my question is, when are you guys most likely to be around? It's been too long.

  14. Hey everyone if you have an end of year list similar to the ones Cakes and Jaco did in the LISTS section here that you'd like to go up on the site, take a look there and add one in. Can't promise they'll all make the site, but it'll be fun!

  15. Just an FYI, people... after I win the lottery toonight I'll be immediately going into film funding/producing mode. Just thought I'd get that out there.

  16. Congratulations to all of you who made The Hit List!!!

  17. Sad news. I have fond memories of watching the Billy Jack films with my dad. http://movies.yahoo.com/news/tom-laughlin-star-billy-jack-dead-82-212410321.html

  18. I wrote these words that Perlman is chewing up the scenery with (Not the "feel me" tho, that was all Ron): http://cms.springboard.gorillanation.com/previews/67/video/833689/0/0/1

  19. What do you think about an inciting incident on pg 16? Is it too late?

Opie, your script should be devoid of ANYTHING "less exciting."

  20. What do you think about an inciting incident on pg 16? Is it too late?

    1. Mike

      Mike

The inciting incident usually comes "shortly" before the end of the first act. If you put it on page 15, that will make for a very short first act, or a tedious second half of your fist act. Mine always land around page 20 and I've seldom if ever been told that's too late. Scripts that have "early" inciting incidents usually have characters that leave me wanting, cos I simply don't know them well enough.

  21. Any thoughts on shopping agreements? Good/bad/otherwise

    1. Mike

      Mike

Keep em short. Really short. By that I mean in terms of the time period for which they want the exclusivity to shop. But don't be afraid to insist that you won't sign any kind of attachment deal until they bring something tangible to the table. You can PM me. I'm happy to elaborate.

  22. "LOVE" - short I wrote - just won Best Film at Southampton Film Week. Not the Oscars - but still nice cool that the film's out there making its way in the world.

  23. Question: Do feature comedy specs sell anymore? I can't remember the last one that sold to a studio. Seems like everything is developed in-house or with attachments. Am I wrong?
