  1. BUTCHER'S BOY -- Tolmach.... Listed as a sale today. Logline sounds a lot like a novel of the same name by Thomas Perry. Anyone know if that "sale" is a spec / adaptation/ or just rights to the book?

  2. Any news on the two specs from last week that rolled with heat into the weekend: Paroled and Brian Stokes??

I'm wondering too. After heat alerts I often wonder what happened. Sometime there are updates, other times, not.

Paroled still has some big interest, but is looking for a star attachment.

Brian Stokes is still in contention, but no new details yet.

  3. RE: the Paul Walker potential in DH 5... Anyone know if that project has a start date?

It does not yet. Fox has been trying to find a "Bruce Willis" replacement, much like Paramount is doing right now with Mission Impossible and Renner. Looks like the jokes about it being Paul Walker a few weeks ago actually are for real now. Not sure how I feel about that.

Oh snap -- so the rumor isn't just to "join" Willis -- but to assume the mantle as the lead for any sequels going forward?

As long as Paul Walker has to simply look pretty and not do much acting he will be okay.

  4. Higher Learning... Forced my way to the end of Act One. Feel very sad that she feels the need to do THIS. Much better pilots would've been surely happy to have her.

I actually liked the pilot and I can see why she would do it. But, I suspect this particular character and script spoke to her which is why she's doing it. We shall see what happens with it...

I'll concede that - there is "potential" for a character there -- but the writing was just so dreadful... Forced, stilted and trying way too hard.

  5. So obviously haven't read the script... But I just watched the trailer for Alcatraz. So... There's this Island see. And somewhere on this island there's a way to make things disappear or appear. And on this island, people can "3 dimensionally" move through time. And there's like a mysterious group of people who can control this and... God, please just don't tell me there's a cork. It's kinda looking like they just took all the Dharma stuff from Lost and...

This town is funny.. you know execs and agents were like "This is JJ dude ... he creates hits..." so the insecurity factor and second guessing went through the roof....

I heard the pilot wasn't very good.

I'm a fan of JJ's. I just wish he'd stay more involved with his projects and if he can't, then he shouldn't do them. He's a great storyteller. If he'd been able to stay involved with Lost, it would've been a much better final season.....sigh....

  6. Love how they're doing a Child's Play remake, but keeping the logline under wraps. Gee, I'm on pins and needles to find out what it might be about.

Actually, making Chucky one the Seven Dwarfs would be awesome. "Eat the apple bitch! Eat the apple!"

We should do revisionist fairy tale horror -- Michael Myers plays Prince Charming. Annie Wilkes as the wicked witch. Featuring Hannibal Lecter as Gandalf. We can call it "Serial Killer Theater".

    4. Cyber Hater

      Cyber Hater

No no no -- Chucky needs to do an Emanuel Lewis/Gary Coleman type sitcom vehicle where he's adopted by rich BLACK parents -- and watch the family friendly action ensue :-)

  7. Question for Admins... How do you choose when/if to list something under "SALES"... Something like "Inside Passage" for instance is listed today. But I know for fact it was sold back in 2008 w/ all the same people attached. What new info warrants a new "Sale" listing -- or is it just a renewal of an option?

While I don't work for the site itself, I just help run the board, I think the sales come from a variety of sources. "Insight" for example I personally just saw across a few of my boards in a "sales market recap". I think it comes from a lot of places for them - I know they cover the daily public news (trades, online film sites, etc) and then all of the private boards they run/operate, as well as a few other scoop/reporting ways. I know they all work FT in the industry,...

Thx for the feedback Red... Much appreciated and it also made me realize what I think is my actual question... Who typically "announces" the sale, whether it be on boards, in trades, etc... The selling agent/manager or the purchaser?

    4. admin

      admin

That is a question that does not have 1 answer, as it's not something that has a "set" plan. If it's a monster studio project usually a studio wants to do a release (but by doing so they can take weeks to months) and in that process, the news is out, whether it be from agencies, writers, execs, producers, studios, assistants, etc.

  8. So is the JMS script "Voices from the Dead" what came out of the pitch "Edge of the Unknown" or are these actually two separate projects?

      2 Seperate ones.

And now Sify channel announces a series with this same exact premise as well... Doyle and Houdini fighting crime. Steam Punk style

    3. Roark

      Roark

The first great Elephant Train of 2011

  9. Man... Just read REM. I think between this script and the pilot for Lonestar -- a psychoanalyst would have a field day with the subtext and obvious underlying psych issues Killen seems to be battling with.

As a license shrink I totally agree. But that is what makes them so much fun to read. At least on my end.

Add to the fact David Slade is directing...

    3. LeftyJones

      LeftyJones

Oh yeah... I should've emphasized the quality of the writing. Just what struck me was him repeating the same basic premise of a man caught between two lives and the little iconography (in Lone Star the key chain -- here the colored rubberbands) that he uses to remind himself which "life" he's living. I think maybe Kyle's wife should be worried. LOL.

  10. Any updates on last week's hot projects: FLIGHT RISK ... ROSE RED... EDGE OF THE UNKNOWN??

Add "X" to my curiosity list as well...

Looks like the gang on the main site updated two of those today (Edge and X)

  11. Oops -- maybe those guys are too old for the youngins around here. WILL SMITTH. There's a guy we always cheer for. Who's the next Will Smith out there?

The fact that Tom Hardy starred in the film BRONSON, then INCEPTION, and I had no idea he was the same guy even after having seen both multiple times, blew my mind! I'm all for Hardy blowing up now!

    3. Cyber Hater

      Cyber Hater

Ok - u r soooooo right on that one Red. He's the next Great One. He was the villain in Star Trek Nemisis, quiet guy in Layer Cake. He's a chameleon!

      Viva Tom Hardy

    4. Cyber Hater

      Cyber Hater

He's gonna be villain in new Batman, Mad Max, and now the huntsman in snow white flick - he's through the roof... My partners homie

  12. A real hero we can cheer for... Remember how easy it used to be. Arnold. Stallone -- whatever it was, America was cheering...
