My buddy is the great grand son of the lyricist for The Wizard of Oz and is doing a movie about the music behind the film. Check out his kickstarter! https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/the-sound-of-oz

That is So. Cool. Fun fact: Yip Harburg recycled a lyric that went unused in the film but which survives in the stage production-- "Follow the rainbow over the stream; follow the fellow who follows his dream"-- for a song in "Finnian's Rainbow." This is the only instance I'm aware of in which a lyricist plagiarized himself.

@George: tight and consistent, sure. But "tight" in this case just amounted to "Cliff's notes plot points"-- mom was abused, escaped, went to school, got cancer, died, brother didn't know how to deal with it, Cheryl became an addict-- all of which we've seen a billion times before. So either I know a truly outlier-y collection of folks or this is a misleadingly cropped snapshot of the facts. Nobody slit your wrists just yet.

What are some good examples of movies/screenplays with two or three separate storylines that don't necessarily intersect?

Fact: if film schools had acting classes for aspiring directors and writers, their films would be much better. Fact.

House of Cards...now THAT is television.
