  1. Sounds like "Ascending" is the wrong adjective.

You might execute your concept flawlessly but if you no ambition, if your just riffing off of far better fils (ND NOT IN A TARANTINO WAY) I got no respect for you.

Guys- the movie may horrendous or whatever- but let's not make fun of filmmakers still trying to create original content. In a world where derivative garbage like TAKEN or SAFEHOUSE does huge numbers at the box office, let's support movies that actually have ambition. That are trying to give us something new. Rather than flawless films- like TAKEN, like SAFEHOUSE- that trot out the same played garbage.

  3. NIGHTCRAWLER was fantastic. Gyllenhaal knocks it out of the park. Beautifully shot. Every bit as good as the screenplay. Please support this movie.

It sticks very closely to the original script. And Gyllenhaal's portrayal of Lou is one for the ages. It's gonna do terrible box office, mainstream audiences won't know what to make of it ("he should've got his just desserts" was one dumb comment i overheard when leaving), but for anyone still interested in original storytelling, edgy characters this movie is for you.

  4. Just wondering what is up with people asking for screeners for films that are currently in the theaters. I mean, can't people spend the 10 bucks and support our industry?

But back to the original question: does anyone know where me and Patrick Campbell could get some free screeners?

  5. I'm eleven episodes deep into MASTERS OF SEX and its fantastic. This is filling the BREAKING BAD void just nicely.

Fellas... Showtime has some really good shows but even if MASTERS OF SEX was the only program on Showtime it would still be worth the price of a subscription. It's that good. Get on that shit.

This is incredible stuff, Dan. Calvin and Hobbes does nothing for me and yet I found your script absolutely riveting. You deserve all the success that's coming your way! Congratulations.

Insulting to the audience's intelligence? That's a rarity. Was there a single blockbuster that came out this year- other than GRAVITY- that wasn't insulting to the audience's intelligence?

Watch INCENDIES in the meantime. It's a french movie by the same director and much better than PRISONERS. That being said, PRISONERS is very good just not on the same level as INCENDIES.

Yep, fantastic movie. One of the year's best along with BEFORE MIDNIGHT, STOKER, FRANCES HA, PLACE BEYOND THE PINES, DRUG WAR and FRUITVALE STATION. Been a good year for movies so far if you can just ignore the popcorn movies.

The hallway scene, the consuming of the octopus... the whole premise why release a guy after x amount of years? And then, of course, the twist and the final hypothetical. There's some much going on. You don't get this kind of ambition in hollywood.

Keyword "Hollywood." Beasts of the Southern Wild does not count, it was independently made and for the same reasons "Gimme the Loot" does not qualify.

You're right CB- for every Breaking Bad there's a Burn Notice, Park666 and a dozen other dumb shows. But there are still diamonds in the rough. Name me one studio release so far this year that attempts to give us something different? GI JOE is not the exception to the rule, it is the rule. And I'm sure its great if you're 12 years old and/or still find yourself slack-jawed at the mere sight of an explosion or gunfight but for the more discerning viewer what does hollywood r...

So you’ll watch anything on a 30 foot screen as long as it’s on a 30 foot screen?

Me? I’d rather watch Breaking Bad on a screen the size of a postage stamp than see remakes of remakes and sequels to movies that weren’t even good to begin with.
