  1. Question? The hungry list says that it will show loglines but when I click on it, it is the peoples names, their projects and reps. No loglines. Did I misread?

    1. Jarrean

      Jarrean

      Where do you see that?

    2. ChristianSavage

      ChristianSavage

On the list's homepage, there's a paragraph that says the following details are given for each winning script: author, logline, and rep info. I'm not seeing loglines, either...

Why is it on lock-down? It has been slower lately...

    3. SilverFox

      SilverFox

It's crazy how scripts are on lock down. QT films and Deadpool prove it doesn't affect box office. It's reading Harry Potter books before watching the films. One could argue, especially in my case, reading scripts makes me want to see a movie more!

    4. andrewpwoodberry

      andrewpwoodberry

Deadpool was leaked by the writers on purpose, so not a great example. I think the bigger fear is negative buzz -- like with Aloha, well ahead of release, due to the Sony hack. If a script is still under development and gets out there, it could slow development process.

  3. Anyway to read some of the top 10 scripts? Very curious to see how the stories played out and what the judges considered top 10.

Same here-- Maybe members who placed will post or direct message us if they don't mind sharing. I think the entire top ten gets a free year year to tracking board... So hopefully see even a few. Maybe someone else on here would know the answer better...

A $5,000 option is crap anyways. Seriously if it's a great script talk about being taken advantage of.

  5. I have a question for the moderators. But i guess it could go to anyone who knows. Is there a big difference between submitting to the launchpad pilots and submitting to the year round coverage that automatically gets you a chance at getting your script around town?

    1. admin

      admin

Hey Zack, while us mods over here have nothing to do with the competition, I asked the TB guys for some clarification. Essentially, the year round coverage is kind of like it's own contest, but is ultimately beholden to the 1-2 individual readers responses, whereas in the competition, every script is read a minimum of two times by readers before being turned around to the management team and judges who read the top picks (between 100-150) to get the number down to their ultimate winners....

I'll be bold as bold is and say a screenwriter shouldn't love movies, but critical entertainment.

  9. I know you hated it Jiblings. Characters were thin and it was riddled with cliches and plot holes, but even then, movie theaters were made for Jurassic World. True Blockbuster. Took me back to the 90s.

    1. aphid47

      aphid47

I feel like in the 90's the stories were at least there. Terminator 2 had great FX, but also a decent story. This is why I don't go see these kinds of movies anymore. No heart.

  10. Any recommendations on a books or website that helps with the modern day blueprint of screenplays. I used to write comedies, but have transitioned to TV Dramas. However I have a drama Idea for a feature and would like to get reacquainted with screenplay structure as it looks today.

In my little world, I tend to believe books about structure are great if you're writing a grad paper but not so great for anything else. Beginning, middle, end. Everything else is that slog of a journey you have to figure out yourself and the best light is finding what you enjoyed (movies/books) and then struggling to figure out what it was that worked so well for *you.* Of course, there is a million-dollar industry that disagrees with me so I'll leave it to the masses to tear my w...

I was talking about Gotham with a friend and lamenting how if it were done on HBO, FX or basically any non-broadcast network it would have been SO much better. Such a great concept, almost there, but...it's Fox. Frustrating.

  19. Im sure everyone is wanting to put their two sense in about this but to me, I don't exactly see the benefit in bringing writers down to so called "reality". We're dreamers. We dream things up every day. And the ones making a living at it are the ones who are too busy writing to worry about whether they will be successful or whether an option is a sale or free.

Quick note with Trelby, the margins are off and in need of a good tweak if you decide to go that route. You'll notice it once you import the file.

  22. Whats everyone's thinking on FOX abandoning Pilot Season (If it in fact happens)? I realize it might possibly lead to more quality, but will it come at the cost of less stories being bought and there for less writing opportunities?

Honestly, I think the immediate impact is felt, but within a year the new design will still have the same amount of sales & projects in development.

    3. typistolero

      typistolero

They probably aren't abandoning pilot season as much as spreading it out a little. Reilly says something like this every year, but the fact is they still need to participate in the upfronts with everyone else and lock in their ad sales.

    4. admin

yep. until everyone goes the way (that truthfully TV is going) up fronts & ads will dictate their "seasons".

Read the script a while back, a refreshing non-linear structure but a little slow on the story. Deep characters with a lot to show as well as some really nicely crafted scenes.

  25. can tb recommends happen on story notes, or just the full coverage option?
