  1. However you felt about it, Netflix dropping a trailer for The Colverfield Paradox during the super bowl and saying it starts playing after the game is a HUGE game changer. I hope they do that every year.

And they can use the same ploy on other massive, global sporting events too. Why not surprise-drop another huge project right after the Soccer World Cup finals, or the Olympics, or some 'once-in-a-lifetime' UFC fight?

The Cloverfield drop is just another awesome way Netflix has separated themselves from traditional models, and I love it!

Putting aside the quality of the actual movie, the marketing concept itself is BRILLIANT!

Netflix now, in a way, "owns" the Superbowl in terms of movie marketing. Typically, people tune in to watch a movie trailer for some tentpole releasing in the summer, but now, if they make this an annual thing (and why wouldn't they?), you're going to build a group of people who tune in to find out what 'The Netflix Superbowl Movie' will be that year.

      15. When did I actually start *finishing* scripts that I started writing? Early 20s. :S

  4. How surprising is this: "Jackie" has only grossed $13M and is now in RedBox, so I assume that means they don't expect to see more. I know the script was heavily praised when it first went out. On Rotten Tomatoes, 89% Critic score, 64% Audience. I tend to side with the audience meter more often than not. Discuss.

  5. I know everyone is different and everyone has their go-to coverage analyst, but I really wanted to show some love for www.scriptexaminer.com. I have used everyone from Black List to TB and several independents and Ashish coverage is THE best out there for the money. My last round of coverage resulted in 3 thorough pages of notes and I can't say it wasn't his suggestions that got my script in the shape it needed to be in to land me a manager. Just a friendly tip to those in need.

  7. In a galaxy far, far away, I co-wrote a small straight to DVD arthouse movie called Hard Target 2. Trailer's out.

  8. I don’t normally toot my own horn, but... my western script “DEATH OF A LEGEND” is the Grand Prize Winner in the StoryPros Screenwriting Competition, beating out almost 1,000 other screenplays. Tracking Board coverage from DB and JT helped me improve the script, so a very big thanks to them. I’m hoping the win will help me in my quest to find a manager.

  10. So in the new STAR WARS trailer, why does Luke say "My father HAS it..." implying Vader is still alive?

Luke: If I don't make it back, you're the only hope for the Alliance.

Princess Leia: Luke, don't talk that way. You have a power I don't understand and could never have.

Luke: You're wrong, Leia. **You have that power too.** In time you'll learn to use it as I have. ***The Force runs strong in my family. My father has it. I have it. And... my sister has it.*** Yes. It's you, Leia.

Now submitting a PDF at the veeeery last second, after a frantic, Red Bull and/or cocaine-fuelled writing bender, complete with typos, grammar flubs, and that generic 'insert details here' placeholder Final Draft cover page? THAT'S how all the true ballers roll. :P

It's kind of a ghetto work-around, but the one way I've done it in the past is to just leave a gap in the script where you want your image to go.

      Then export to PDF.

Then use Adobe Acrobat to 'Insert a Watermark'.

Then select your jpg as that watermark and stamp it into empty space you created.

I think instead of 'Insert Watermark', you can also use acrobat's 'Stamp/Insert Signature' feature.

Thanks to all the contributors - Hit List, Black List, FYC scripts, old scripts, spec scripts, TV scripts. Just great. Thank you. Now make sure you read some of the scripts instead of just having a million of them. So much to learn. Never give up on your writing dreams. Never ever.

So I guess any comedy writer working on some goofy, mildly-satirical spec that comments on a real world political event or figure better scrap it immediately and start polishing their 'Fat Security Guard: Revenge of The Farts' script instead.
