  1. I found Inherent Vice extremely underwhelming.

Couldn't get through VICE. Wanted to love it, loved the era and details, was bored to tears by the events/plot...

      I loved it.

The plot isn't supposed to make sense. You try following the leads for about fifteen minutes then just give up and go with it. It places you right in JP's head.

I died laughing when he wrote the helpful clue "something Spanish" in his pad.

PTA's movies always reveal more on further viewings.

  2. I had no idea that The Page contest took television pilots ... good to know for next time.

  3. I know I haven't been around much lately, but I never seem to catch the moment when people are in chat anymore. So my question is, when are you guys most likely to be around? It's been too long.

Usually weekdays around noonish pacific time Jibs. It's been a while since we've seen you.

And Jibs, I for one, can tell you that, you are sorely missed.

      Ah, thanks Mike.

  4. I was glad to see that The Walking Dead pilot turned out better than I had thought, though I still think it read better than what ended up on the screen.

I think it started out solid, was a little heavy-handed in the middle, but quickly picked up pace again building towards the end.

The script worked much better than the filmed pilot. I was blown away by the script, but just kinda enjoyed the show.

  5. I'm excited to hear that The League on FX got picked up for a third season.

I don't get FF at all, and even I think their show is funny and has its own brand of charm. Totally deserved.

IMO: this is hands down one of the funniest shows on TV, and it has almost nothing to do with fantasy football (which is the reason i find so many people telling me they don't watch it).

    3. aphid47

      aphid47

I didn't watch the first season for the same reason, I don't know anything about FF. But my friends kept pestering me to watch, and I finally gave in. Now it is my favorite comedy show.

  6. I've been reading A Serious Man script that I got out of the library. Is it just me, or is this thing a transcript? So many spelling errors, and awkward transitions, it can't be the actual script. Anyone else notice this?

That surprises me, I would think studio drafts wouldn't have so many errors, spelling or otherwise.

Coen's are infamous for this kind of stuff...Burn After Reading was a pain to get through.

  7. is getting ready for AFF!

  8. Is going back in time and reading "Back to the Future" (Imaginary theme music cue)

I don't think I could ever get sick of that movie

  9. Is there a way to see when your membership is going to renew?

  10. Jesus what a crappy film, it should have been called Live Free or Die Flaccid

  11. Just finished cranking out a shit draft of a feature I've been working on. Time to let it sit in a drawer until after Christmas, so I can take a fresh perspective and tear it all apart so I can build it back up.

Awesome! Tear, shred, tear some more, put away again then cut, paste, scream and revelate! Good luck!

Why shit drafts? Why not outline to perfection -- like a master criminal -- and then write a first draft that reads like a 3rd draft...? Like me :-)

    4. aphid47

      aphid47

I did outline like crazy, but a first draft has all of the shit in it that you need to clean out to make it shine. If a first draft of anything is amazing, you may be deluded.

  12. Just finished reading Frank Darabonts "The Walking Dead" Pilot, what an amazing script!

      ted

I agree! It had great description and tone. Really captured the comic books. Can't wait to see it on Halloween!

The trailer does not match what I saw in my head while reading it, still hoping that I'm wrong and it turns out to be great.

  13. Just finished The Irishman and wasn't very impressed. I would rather see Scorsese do something different. It read like Goodfellas II, and not in a good way. What did everyone else think?

  14. Just got a letter from AFF that one of my scripts made 2nd round. Felt pretty good after not getting out of the first my last couple of tries.

  15. Just looked at my profile for the first time in years and saw I only have 4 out of 5 stars :(

What a weird system to implement here, and what kind of petty asshole goes into someone's profile to give them a bad rating

    3. sbbn

      sbbn

This doesn't really seem like the type of forum that needs or should have user ratings (especially given how civil this place generally is compared to say... reddit) but eh, whatever, I guess.

    4. StringerBell

      StringerBell

I happen to be enjoying my rating quite a bit.

  16. Just read "The Raven" and then Stallone's "Poe", one was awful, one was pretty good. Can you guess which?

  17. Just read Looper. Loved it, had me completely sucked into the world, but, not sure about that ending . . . anyone else have any thoughts?

Couldn'tmake it past pg65. Didn't care about characters. Young Joe actually looking to bring in his older self to save himself now was dumb. The scarring, as mentioned above, was good. As well as the limb thing. But cud blu and all that stuff got annoying

    3. Penelope

      Penelope

yeah. I didn't care about the characters either. I think he is just going for something darker so he isn't really concerned about that but who knows.

      aphid47

I figured it was the typical action film, character that is not very deep. I ended up rooting for old Joe instead of young Joe.

  18. Just read Terriers and then watched the pilot episode. This is a hell of a show!
