2014 Hit List Recommendation: Remember by Benjamin August. It's slow and understated, but worth the journey.

A lot of great screenwriting lessons can be gleaned from the musical Hamilton. Worth a listen on Spotify -- especially "My Shot"

A nice, inspirational story from Jay Lavender (co-writer of The Break-Up and The Wedding Ringer): http://jaylavender.com/post/107802088632/jeremy-garelick-the-wedding-ringer

Added all of MISFIRE to the W-I-P post. If you read it, post your thoughts. It's good for me to grow a thick skin.

Any 2015 Hit List/ Black List scripts outside of the Top 10 really good and worth reading? Thanks in advance for suggestions.

Any Jeff Goldsmith fans? I recently re-found this epic interview with Christopher McQuarrie. A master storyteller, even if his movies don't always work: http://ex.fm/song/5g80x/Christopher+McQuarrie+-+Valkyrie+Q&A-Jeff+Goldsmith

Atlanta has the best writing on television currently. Sad we have to wait 51 weeks to see if it will win the Emmy for comedy writing.

AV Club reminded me how much I love the Aliens in America tv show. Here's the pilot script for other fans: http://www.zen134237.zen.co.uk/Aliens_In_America_1x01_-_Pilot.pdf

Chrome Users: If PDF files are opening in a new tab instead of Acrobat, type "Chrome:Plugins" into browser and disable Chrome PDF Viewer. Just started happening to me and was uber annoying.

Cold in July is a great read. Excellent plot turns to keep the reader engaged.

Do you get notes saying your dialogue doesn't sound real? Read and learn from transcripts. I'm reading this FBI one of leaker Reality Winner, which is getting turned into an Off-Broadway play soon! https://www.politico.com/f/?id=0000015e-c5e7-ddab-a57f-cfe7d5b50002

Does Safety Not Guaranteed receive the same level of interest if it wasn't loosely inspired by a real classified ad? Just curious...

Embarrassed to say my favorite of Ted's comedy uploads was "Wendell & Vinnie." Maybe some of the network comedies will be better.

Enjoyed this article on female character descriptions: http://www.vulture.com/2018/04/how-50-female-characters-were-described-in-their-screenplays.html

Fall network tv season officially starts today. I'll start a section in chit-chat in case anyone still has a TV that gets those channels.

Favor Request: I just dropped into W-I-P a writing sample I was thinking of using to approach tv lit agents. If you have 10 minutes, can you read and let me know thoughts? Happy to provide feedback on others' projects as well.

Finally watched Room on Amazon Prime. Great story, wonderful acting. On the script side, master class in set ups and payoffs (the bad tooth, the long hair, "i pick for both of us", the shed)

For those interested in the nuances of telling a good story, check out this week's series in the LA Times on an Orange County relationship gone bad. Perfect example of storytelling that gets you to lean in and find out what happened next. http://www.latimes.com/projects/la-me-dirty-john/

Most of Pilar's podcasts are really great. This one I heard over the weekend I found particularly good for beginning comedy tv/film writers: http://onthepage.libsyn.com/523-the-comic-heros-journey
