  1. My short horror story The Lake Erie Siren will appear this June in the Spring 2019 edition of Mad Scientist Journal.

  2. The forum may have died, or perhaps its more due to the cliquiness on here that prevented new members from feeling welcome.

      The forum died?

  3. How surprising is this: "Jackie" has only grossed $13M and is now in RedBox, so I assume that means they don't expect to see more. I know the script was heavily praised when it first went out. On Rotten Tomatoes, 89% Critic score, 64% Audience. I tend to side with the audience meter more often than not. Discuss.

I thought the movie was going to start with the Kennedys landing in Dallas then leading all the way up to the shooting and immediately after. At least that would have showed something new, what it looked like from her perspective to be in that car. (They did show this but it was so brief!)

Instead what we got was the tired format of her getting interviewed by someone then having multiple flashbacks to scenes that all showcased Jackie being sad and stressed. There's only so...

The movie was essentially a vehicle for Natalie Portman's Jackie O impression.

It had amazing production values but the script itself barely covered any new ground. It showed a lot of "behind the scenes" moments that we already knew of. Primarily that Jackie was understandably upset when her husband was murdered in front of her.

Interesting. What would you say that percentage was a few years ago shadow?

  6. There's something crushingly confusing about reading great specs and learning from them, only to see them actualized in the theaters and get railed over by audiences and critics alike. Read: Nobody. Knows. Anything.

I was so shocked when the first Passengers trailer came out...it looked like a really expensive perfume commercial. Or like that fake movie they were talking about in Thank You For Smoking with Angelina Jolie smoking in space.

This is the second good script Morten Tyldum has made a bland realization of.

  7. Enjoyed Fantastic Beasts yesterday, now I'm enjoy the screenplay book, which was 1/2 price when pre-ordered at my local Book shop. Only £8.50. Can't complain.

Hopefully the book is better because the movie felt like a sluggish bore. All these talented actors and nothing to do but tell and explain things that should be seen and demonstrated.

  9. Good Lord, I can't wait until the Black List comes out so I can read something interesting... It's dry as the Sahara out here...

  10. Atlanta has the best writing on television currently. Sad we have to wait 51 weeks to see if it will win the Emmy for comedy writing.

  11. So thoughts on the night of finale? I thought it was solid.

Pretty solid ending, cannot for the life of me understand the point of Chandra kissing him though.

Also, now that the series was over, what was the point of Stone's foot issues? Was it meant to be a metaphor for him dodging the real court work and always trying to take the quick and easy way?

  12. I'm sure I'm in the minority here and will probably get crucified for this, but I honestly do not get the hype for Stranger Things. It seems like the more people hype a show up all over social media the more let down I am by it when I finally get around to watching. Props to the writers for getting it going but I just was not engaged. Discuss.

Nostalgia and homaging is fine when you add your own spin to it but it didn't seem like these guys had anything original to say...

I'm with you ben...rewatching it right now with my girlfriend and I'm kind of amazed nobody in production said anything. Although Netflix was right to pick it up, they're probably getting a lot of new subscribers out of it

Not to shit on it or anything, the series was really fun and the intro and soundtrack are killer.

I feel like the first four episodes were incredible but after

      **SPOILER**

the body was pulled from the water it started to lose steam. I understand a lot of the show was homage, and it did that very well, but it felt like there wasn't any originality injected into the series.

Someone mentioned to me that Tarantino does the same, but at least he adds to what he's paying homage to.

This ended up feeling like the Girl Talk version of 80s cinema.

Very interesting. Especially the part about refusing to talk never being brought up in court. Seems like it's always insinuated in movies and television just how bad you'll look for requesting a lawyer.

So question then: If you find yourself in that situation and you say

      "I want a lawyer"

"That's not gonna look good to a jury..."

      "Great. Lawyer?"

Will they leave you alone completely until your lawyer shows up? How long does it (usually) take a public defendant to show up?

@sbbn I love how they showcased everyone on the police force working together on that. "Oh you want a lawyer? That's not gonna look good to a jury..."

Really goes to show how hard it is to think straight when three people in the room are telling you to do something.

I want to say thanks again to all the terrific members here and the happy sharing. Perhaps in a few months, I'll join back in. My Kindle is going to be hungry, I know... If anyone wants my email address, drop me a message in the next few days.
