Windows has burned me so many times that I can't bring myself to give it another chance.

Macbook pro is my newest laptop (within the last year). Love it - I'll never go back to a window laptop after trying macbook pro.

  4. What older specs do you still read that blow you away that you can't believe aren't movies yet?

That script about Russia and the US going to war and Russia using an EMP to wipe out all our technology, forcing the US to use WWII planes flown by WWII veterans... can't remember the name of it but that was a damn good script (and I know why it hasn't been made - cost).

  6. Kudos to the whoismrrobot.com marketing team. Well done, thus far.

  7. And he returned from the dead. Just uploaded a new script I finished. Would like some darling to rip it to bits for me.

  8. Yay! My script reading should explode! I just bought a Kindle DX.

  9. Brain-fail on the film.. something like.."It must feel good to be right all the time." Paraphrasing respons: "No, not really" Was it BROADCAST NEWS? Anyway, welcome to my shit-ass bullshit fuck of a day.

  10. The best part of the dental implant procedure was when the doctor said, "That's good -- we can drill deeper."

  11. So I have a Star Wars theory - JJ is going to kill Han Solo.

Ug, don't like that theory, arc or otherwise. Bah.

  12. I'm contemplating a move to a Macbook after not finding a PC laptop I really like. I have a PC desktop, so the laptop will not be my primary machine. I'm looking for portability but need enough power for writing/surfing, maybe some Netfilx. I'd appreciate hearing users' thoughts on Macbook Airs and Pro retinas. Thanks!

One other thing, you can't get Highland on the PC.

I can't remember if they have Air with retina but I don't think they do. I would absolutely take retina over Air any day, no matter how much lighter or thinner - the retina display is absolutely incredible.

I have to say I don't get all the switch to PC crowd - I went the other way after getting fed up with Microsoft garbage and I've never regretted that switch (and I'll never go back to a PC). I have the retina and love it. I haven't used an Air but the retina I have (I think it's a 13") is light enough and thin enough that there hasn't ever been a point I wished I had gone with the Air.

I didn't realize Matt Damon was it in and (spoiler) he was a real dick. Also, did I miss something with the story and whatnot - so... people in the future put a wormhole so we could travel far off to nowhere and then end up back in our own solar system... where the wormhole was? I feel like the shortest distance between two points is not that.

  16. Didn't want to hijack Fsalmon's post about Serial, so adding this post. I'm new to podcasts (other than film-related ones). Do any of you have any great podcast recommendations?

  17. Is Homeland a show about the CIA or a drama about the struggles with mental illness? I'm so confused.

  18. Copyright question for you guys. I was thinking of (loosely) basing a script on one of Isaac Asimov's short stories which is, of course, copyrighted. Anyway I can use it? I'm not planning on stelling or anything, probably just put it on YouTube.

By the way, I would be very leery about legal opinions from non-attorneys (I know, I know, everyone who seen Law & Order is qualified to practice law). I've seen people end up in serious messes because of that sort of thing.

With what you're describing, you're probably on the low risk end of things. And in all likelihood, if there was an issue, you'd get a cease-and-desist and you take it down and move on with your life.

@Axalon, to answer you question about whether you are doing it for profit, the short answer is no. Whether you are doing it for profit or not isn't a factor in determining whether there has been a copyright violation. It may factor into whether the copyright holder decides to bring a suit but that's a personal question, not a legal one. The big question really is whether someone is going to bring suit. If they aren't, then all the questions about copyright issues are academic....

It's a difficult question to answer. I'm sure you're familiar with the idea v. expression of an idea. It's a spectrum. The more it's just the idea than specifics, the more likely you're fine. As a practical matter, even attorneys can't tell you how a judge or jury would decide a fact specific question like copyright violation. Until there is a verdict, it's all calculated guessing.
