  1. Has anyone read this years BlackList winner "Blonde Ambition"? Thoughts?

Well written and does a good job balancing motivations. The Madonna era predates me so the subject matter didn't hold anything in the way of nostalgia and the subject matter wasn't incredibly exciting to me... overall, interesting read but I could take it or leave it. Maybe rent it on Netflix, but more likely would skip the movie.

  2. Walking dead screenplay pdf? Want to see how many pages it is with all the action and commercials for an hour long show.

  3. Oh my goodness, the Mag 7 remake begs the question: Why? Why? Why? The script was color-by-numbers and seeing the film last night was no upgrade... "boring, Sidney, boooring..."

  4. So thoughts on the night of finale? I thought it was solid.

@jinkazama that's pure fantasy. Even if you don't believe that most people in the legal system want the correct answer (not my experience), the system is anything BUT fast.

It was good. The former prosecutor in me is still waiting for the show that is a bit more grounded in reality but for the fantasy that it was, I enjoyed it. There were little things that drove me crazy, like the prosecutor holding the knife like she did or standing at the witness stand but I get that's to make it all more cinematically aesthetic.

  6. I'm sure I'm in the minority here and will probably get crucified for this, but I honestly do not get the hype for Stranger Things. It seems like the more people hype a show up all over social media the more let down I am by it when I finally get around to watching. Props to the writers for getting it going but I just was not engaged. Discuss.

Eh, sometimes, but they typically thought they were too good for me. Them and their waffles.

Nostalgia was a big factor for me but I grew up in the Upside Down and my family moved back to this realm when I was in high school. I get that the show might not have the same draw for folks who didn't grow up or vacation there.

Thanks for sharing - I used to really enjoy this site but forgot it existed after it went un-updated for what felt like several years.

  9. JASON BOURNE is terrific! May be the best of the quadrilogy, I think because there's more emotional content here. Being two hours long, about 33% longer than the first three, helps as well. It doesn't feel quite as rushed as - say - the last film, ULTIMATUM. Anyway, try and see it if you're a fan.

Yeah, the right against self-incrimination and the right to counsel are huge so anything that even begins to challenge exercising them (e.g., refusing to talk or requesting an attorney) doesn't come in. And if the prosecutor tries to slip it in, that's grounds for mistrial or being overturned on appeal. It's a very serious thing that police/prosecutors shouldn't mess with.

The 5th amendment right against self-incrimination includes the right to not have a prosecutor try to insinuate guilt from silence or requesting counsel.

it would be incredibly stupid for police to continue asking questions, no matter how good intentioned they are. In broad strokes, if a suspect says I don't want to talk but then changes his mind, the police can go forward with questioning but the minute the suspect says "I want a lawyer" then it's over. And the fact that a person refuses to talk or requests a lawyer can NEVER be brought up in court.

Usually the public defender isn't appointed until you're arraigned, which could be a few days. If you hire private counsel they may show up sooner. The critical factor, however, is that the second you say "I want a lawyer" questioning MUST stop and they cannot try and talk you out of it. Anything said after "I want a lawyer" is inadmissible in court. If try to change your mind after that point and you make admissions, it doesn't come in at trial, which is why

@Axalon, very true and the show does a great job of showing the police being friendly with the defendant in the interrogation. Maybe there are some places where police use an aggressive approach or a good cop/bad cop routine but I've never seen it in actual practice. The soft-spoken, friendly approach is more realistic and more effective from both what I've seen in my real life experience and what I've read in research.

@Axalon, as a former prosecutor, you're dead on. Not that police are bad or have bad intentions (for the most part), but by the time they are questioning you, they aren't on your side and and they aren't asking you questions to help you.

Yeah, the plant houses are good to go. The soil is gentle and the undead obnoxious.

As a sidenote, if you're going to be working in Denver I wouldn't live in/commute from the Springs. I've lived in both Denver and the Springs (love both but Denver is more for me) and that's a rough commute to making regularly. Castle Rock is about as far south as I would go for a Denver commute.

  21. Blacklist read recommendations? Usually it's pretty easy for me to find scripts on the list that impress but this time, after quite a few false starts, I've been struggling to find anything I want to read (or, if I did read, glad that I did).

@Rob B - thanks for those lists. Good to see what others liked/didn't like.

@adlocke and Rob B - Bubbles is such a bizarre concept before even getting to the script itself and I wasn't excited by the idea. I figured I should give it a chance but after 10-20 pages I couldn't get excited about the execution either.

@andrewpwoodberry I can completely relate - I have much less patience than I used to if something doesn't grab me right away.

Love a great pilot except... drives me crazy finishing a great pilot and not being able to read what comes next.
