      Much too predictable and overwrought. Michael Fassbender was electrifying, but not enough to carry a Best Picture nod. It will be sad if white guilt is compelled to call this a masterpiece.

A perfectly valid question is will this batch of films be remembered, rewatched, referenced. revered 40 years from now, the way THE GODFATHER, AMERICAN GRAFFITI, THE EXORCIST, CHINATOWN, JAWS, TAXI DRIVER, ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST, DOG DAY AFTERNOON, ROCKY, STAR WARS are to this day.
