  1. New Disney-owned Star Wars trilogy starting 2015 -- Not a big SW fan, but it'd be cool if they went 'Mission Impossible' on the franchise and let a different director tackle each installment.

can feel the fan boys heads imploding from here ... Your not a fan of Star Wars? How is that even possible.

The smart move would be to go with a director who's known for performances and story, not VFX, and let ILM handle the VFX, a la Marvel -- Jon Favreau, Kenneth Branagh, Shane Black, etc. ILM has tons of TD's and video game guys who can design amazing action sequences, but what they need most is a director who will cast good actors and actually direct them. Less Phantom Menace and more Empire, please.

  2. Someone should write a spec called KEPT UNDER WRAPS.

  3. Hope A GIRL WALKS HOME ALONE AT NIGHT is the start of a hilarious new trend for spec titles.

Kind of brings back to mind the recent spec, A MAN DIES. Looks like this is indeed the new trend...

  4. TED - Very funny, with more hits than misses. The flick does hit some dry spots during the second/third act, but MacFarlane's ability and chemistry with Wahlberg really helps.

  5. "A Monster Problem"/"Monster Problems" -- Totally different movies, but you gotta love how synchronicity works :)

  6. Question for working screenwriters here: What would be your key advice for career longevity? Ie. What do you think the difference is between the folk who get one big sale and/or a Black List mention and then flame out forever, and the folk who are actually putting their kids through college with screenwriting?

      1. Write something that makes a ton a money or gets an Oscar nomination early in your career. 2. Be able to write for production and not just for a reader. Very different things. 3. Listen with your brain and not your ego. 4. Figure out who you want to be early and don't take every stupid thing offered if it doesn't fit your plan. Don't dilute the brand.

  7. PROMETHEUS - Stunning to look at, extremely engaging in parts, fantastic Fassbender, but ultimately muddled and pointless. Shame. Wanted it to be phenomenal.

Cinemotography excellent. Some superb performances, notably Fassbender's. However, sad to say, the screenplay ultimately sucked. It seems character development has gone out the window lately. We're given stick figures instead of people.

    3. RazorBlade1968

      RazorBlade1968

Wanted to love it. Didn't. Never delivers on the promise of the premise, sub plots are muddled, as are character motivations. Supposedly educated characters doing stupid things just to service the plot... I could go on and on.

Agreed. I hated to admit I was bored. How could such a cool idea have been so dully executed? But yeah -- great film to look at. With the sound off.

  8. Just stumbled upon the hidden 'Katamari' game built into the main TB page. Just scroll down to the bottom and click on the tiny "pi" symbol. #EasterEggs!

  9. - New 'Dark Knight Rises' trailer. Looking like classic Nolan. Restrained, deliberate, awesome!

Was this a FUCK YOU to Disney so they don't get people going to The Avengers to see the trailer, or Disney took time out from counting the money from Avengers pre-sales to say "hey, release your little trailer, whatever?"

CANNOT WAIT FOR THIS. As hard as I thought it was to believe possible, this could topple the dark knight.

I remember Mike - all too well. Really a "coincidence" that his letters never stay private and always get leaked. The guy is almost as bugshit as Mel.

  11. Ted looks hilarious! McFarlane looks like he's jumped to the big-screen no sweat! Looking forward to it.

Yeh, couldn't agree more. A foul-mouthed teddy bear. Only Macfarlane could pull it off in such style. But he was wonderful as Johann Krauss in Hellboy 2.

  12. Project X - Front runner for worst film of 2012! My god! Most bland, overly-long, unfunny, 88 mins of my life!

Its not out here in the uk until Friday. I thought it looked rubbish from the trailer alone. Ghost Rider is probably the worst film i've seen this year so far. Was so disappoint with it.was expecting more from the Crank duo.

Enjoyed it. Very slow burn classic film. Will not play for a large chunk of audiences for sure.

    3. AliM

      AliM

Didn't mind the pacing, love slow-burn flicks. But the editing and chronological presentation of the narrative was unnecessarily convoluted. And the ultimate reveal of who the mole was ended up being anti-climactic.

Felt like it was made for people familiar with the source material already.

Eff this film. Eff this film in the fayce! [Lol, not nearly that vitriolic about this flick, but pretty damn close :P]

It took me one month to do it. I was unemployed at the time and was writing 8 hours a day :D.

      F. Scott Frazier recently sold AUTOBAHN, which was originally written as a rough draft in 10 hours. No idea how long he had it in prep, and how long he took to rewrite it though. Still, impressive.
