  1. Looking for something to read. Any recs for decent specs from this year?

Totally agree re: Hereditary. That scene in the first half? No words. But after the second half, I couldn't believe it got so much love.

  2. If anyone wants to start a 2017 pilots thread in the appropriate place, I'll start posting scripts.

Thanks! Have posted broadcast comedies. Will start posting the rest this afternoon.

  3. Atlanta has the best writing on television currently. Sad we have to wait 51 weeks to see if it will win the Emmy for comedy writing.

Feels like I've been pleasantly surprised by a bunch of comedy lately, but maybe I'm just late to the game (that's the likely answer). Atlanta, Better Things, Fleabag, High Maintenance...

  4. I'm sure I'm in the minority here and will probably get crucified for this, but I honestly do not get the hype for Stranger Things. It seems like the more people hype a show up all over social media the more let down I am by it when I finally get around to watching. Props to the writers for getting it going but I just was not engaged. Discuss.

AGREE. Oh, that's such a relief. I've been biting my tongue while nodding enthusiastically for weeks.

  5. I saw John Carney's "Sing Street" this weekend. I really liked it. If you dug his prior films, Once and Begin Again, you'll like this one as well. The guy sure knows how to use music to tell a story.

Me too! A sweet story centering around a teenager that's not Disney Channel saccharine or fake. Rare.

Right now I'm also recommending Green Room and The Lobster, if anyone's looking for interesting movies to watch.

  6. Cold in July is a great read. Excellent plot turns to keep the reader engaged.

Thanks for the recommend. I liked the movie but hadn't thought to add the script to my reading queue.

  7. Blacklist read recommendations? Usually it's pretty easy for me to find scripts on the list that impress but this time, after quite a few false starts, I've been struggling to find anything I want to read (or, if I did read, glad that I did).

Just an observation: Blacklist scripts used to feel like professional-level writing. You know, more impressive. Awe-inspiring, even. This is the first year I've felt like the majority of what made the list seemed more like really good amateur scripts.
