  1. I need to know if anyone's seen a structural paradigm for a one hour TV drama? Like a Blake Snyder beat sheet but for TV. I can't find one, could use help. Thanks!

I have that BB breakdown, but it's in the Blake Snyder template, which I hate and doesn't apply to TV.

Your plot points are different, but just like with features, I'm sure there's certain story elements that usually go into each act. It's form, not formula.

  4. It's interesting thinking how a movie like 'Tootsie' would roll out in 2013. Most likely having to make its way through the festival circuit before being accessible to the masses many months later in a limited release. As opposed to 1982 where it was released to everyone at the same time.

  5. Holy crap! The writers of Breaking Bad are working on the highest level of storytelling I've seen on television this side of the final season of The Shield.

  6. Elmore Leonard. What a guy.

  7. I'm loving these, wish they were done for more movies. What If Episode II Were Good:

Axalon, I get it now. I guess for years we've only seen James McAvoy as Prof X so that was a nice gift to the fans. Do we know yet why they're recruiting Wolvie?

I think it suffered from "over-complicatitus," aka "Nolan wannabe disease." ;-) But I still enjoyed it. Logic issues, though.

Spoilers: The reveal of Prof X didn't have the oomph for me that I think they wanted. We saw at the end of X3 that he was still alive, plus that was 2006, so...what's the big deal? Maybe it has to do with the end of the first Wolverine movie, which I didn't see.

  17. "The Conjuring" is a joke, right? It's gotta be a spoof of those house haunting movies. Gotta be!

The movie could be great, I'm just reacting to the concept and the ad campaign. It sounds like the film is original, but they're making it look exactly like other recent films in the "ghost house" and "exorcism" genres and that bugs me. I'll check it out when it hits VOD.

I heard that, so I wondered why the trailer doesn't focus on the investigators but on this cliche family talking about their haunted house filled with ghost children? Seriously, guys, get a new horror movie device.

There's just such a level of derivative cash-grab to the film that is evident in the trailer that, I'm sorry, it's insulting to me. Based on a True Story...seriously? Who but a 13 year-old actually believes that? And the producers of Insidious, Saw, Paranormal, etc. just happen to find these true stories twice a year to coincide with release schedules, amazing.

The hallway scene didn't look real, it was obviously stunt men. The long single take felt like the director intruding, it pulled me out. Same with the octopus; I wasn't watching a character eat an octopus, I was watching an ACTOR push himself to prove that he was tough. And the final twist...adds up to what? What's the point?
