  1. My short horror story The Lake Erie Siren will appear this June in the Spring 2019 edition of Mad Scientist Journal.

  2. Hey hive mind. Trying to put together a list of films that fall into the Seven Samurai/Magnificent 7/Yojimbo mold of hired pros who come to the aid of regular people/villagers. I have the usual suspects (Bugs Life, 3 Amigos, Equalizer) but I'd love some more recommends. Thanks!

13 Assassins was fantastic. There's also a Carnahan script on here -modern -war vets in Mexico vs. drug lord.

Predictability is a problem but I just saw a UK Michael Powell film from 1946 which was riveting in story and cinematography (Scorsese loves him)- David Niven in Matter of Life or Death - you're not certain if the drama is real or supernatural till the 2/3 point and perhaps not even then.

  7. There's a lot you can learn about serialized tv writing -- and how important "incident" is -- just by reading this timeline of stuff that's happened on This is Us http://www.vulture.com/2018/01/this-is-us-chronological-timeline.html

  8. Looking for a good comedy feature to read. Any recs?

  9. For those interested in the nuances of telling a good story, check out this week's series in the LA Times on an Orange County relationship gone bad. Perfect example of storytelling that gets you to lean in and find out what happened next. http://www.latimes.com/projects/la-me-dirty-john/

Unbelievable now they didn't make it with Banks, Santo, Jenkins, Williams, etc. but they certainly did it in memorable style this time around!

It may be old but The Ghost Breakers is very polished. Considering Bob Hope played Liar Liar 56 years before Jim Carey, maybe worth a look. Hell, Paramount should hire me to redo all their old classics :)

  16. Crime Drama Screenplays: Doing early work on a crime drama idea (movie) and I'm looking for great crime drama screenplays. I don't care if they're recent or not. Also doing a "genre study" of sorts too. So, favorite crime drama screenplays and movies. Go! :)
