i don't have that one. or any for that matter, but i watched the trailer and i think it's amazing how different trailers have become. like back then they couldn't have camera movement.

  4. I know everyone is talking about the lists at the moment, but Ash vs The Evil Dead get so many things wrong. A few things right, but so, so much wrong.

Oh man, I have to say, personally I love the new show! Reminiscent of the films, but inviting enough for newcomers!

Don't get me wrong; I'm glad we have the show. But Ash was never really this grubby womanizer with all the skills that we now see. He was just a regular, red-blooded guy, who was totally in over his head. More a bloody Buster Keaton.

There was even a tragic element to his character that this series doesn't capitalize on.

Ash in this series is more "Old Spice Bruce Campbell" than truly Ash.

And the two main supporting characters are OBNOXIO...

    4. RobertCornero

      RobertCornero

      ...S and GRATING.

Seriously, their scenes are consistently the worst. Boring. Hamfisted. Obvious. Predictable. The best thing the series could do is just kill their characters off, and use it as emotional fodder for series 2.

The fights with the Deadites are consistently great, though, and that keeps me coming back. The design of some of the actual demons is fantastic.

Try writing something other than a screenplay - I was in your position not long ago and tried writing a play - once finished, it helped both with confidence and creativity.

i'm curious. when the first star wars came out, did people know there'd be two more. i think that has something to do with marketing as well. for me, i'm not gonna set lofty expectations. that always turns into a real dog turd.

Adlocke - I don't think they did. The original movie was a real mess, and saved in the editing room. There is a whole subplot excised from the film, with Biggs Darklighter, which you can hear in the original audio drama (and it's terrible). I don't think Lucas even knew there would be more. Thus we end up with the whole Luke-Leia incest-kiss. They were never originally intended to be brother and sister.

Agree with you. On the stage you could get away with ironic distance, on film the emotion between those characters was too strong. Having said that, I think the ending as it stands is fine. I love that movie.

Thanks for the color feedback. I have a suspicion that my monitor color is off, and without a color calibrator, I had to use my best judgement. I will make the text darker, and see what I can do about the links on the left.

      Thanks for reading, all.

I changed the body text color, and the size and color of the navbar links. I can't do much about the image size, at least for this particular post, but I'll try to keep that in mind for future posts. Thanks for the suggestions, all. Hopefully they make it easier to read.

Adlocke - Most people running their own Wordpress install aren't good at security, and are easy targets. Plugins help on this front, though. All-In-One-WP Security is a godsend. And apparently the Jetpack plugin also blocked *161* malicious login attempts!

      Npquinn - Thanks!!

      RobertCornero

I took *a lot* of extra, almost unnecessary measures to increase the security tonight, on top of the already hardened/secure install.

But yeah, if they broke in, they'd have access to a few blog posts, and a few unpublished Portfolio items, lol.

from what i’ve heard from you, i wouldn’t be able to draw the conclusion that the ideas are similar. if you think you’re dealing with the kind of animal who charges their phone for no reason with more than twenty percent battery, you know, you’re not. they know the difference in this and in that. they would look at your script and frank’s completely separately and go his is shit-ass if you did what you’re supposed to.

A lot of people subscribe to the "write every day" idea, but I never force it. If I'm not in a creative mood, I don't bother. So there is no normal for me, but if I get five good pages in a day, I'm happy.

    4. 36monsters

      36monsters

It totally depends on my mood. Some days I'm lucky to get 5...other days it's more. I knocked out a 65 page script in 2 days last week after a total creative rush, but now I'm completely blasted and haven't written a page since. I should be back up and running by next week.

I think what he means is that the best way to learn is to fail. You learn best from your own mistakes, not from being told or even witnessing first hand lessons that others go through. I have to second that. Fail big and you learn a lot.
