  1. Good news? "Terminator: Genisys" isn't as bad as expected. Bad news? It's still not good.

Why is it terrible marketing to put the best scene in the trailer? If the film is bad, you are never going to get good word-of-mouth so surely you have to just sucker as many people into seeing it on release?

Because a scene on it's own is nothing without context. And they don't show the scene. They show clips of the scene.

Ah, I see - 'spoiled' as in ruined, rather than just given away.

The PDF is available on the Black List website.

Scripts that always seem to come up on the annual Black List:

The “Cease and Desist” script: Scripts that will NEVER be made for legal reasons but which grab people's attentions.

The “Deja Vu” script: Not the Rossio/Marsilli one that sold for five million a decade ago, but an unacknowledged remake of another movie. Possibly slightly improved on, but a bit cheeky.

The “Handicapped” script: Scripts where the writer “handicaps” themselves by making the script...

  2. Disney's Bob Iger: "We'd love to make another Indiana Jones movie but we're pacing ourselves right now," launching Star Wars first. https://twitter.com/marcgraser/status/542738596533252096

Don't pace yourselves. I want to see both!

Interesting read; thanks for the link. I can't help but find the film trailer very cheesy. I'm interested to see how it plays at the box office.

  3. Found this scriptwriting infographic made by a professional script reader quite interesting: http://i.imgur.com/T22gGBO.png

At the end of the day, screenwriters are the gatekeepers. If the script fires on all or most cylinders, it's a recommend if marketed to the appropriate producers. I've recommended more concepts than scripts, mainly because the reps pushed the script prematurely, thinking the concept alone would sell the script. I don't know how often that is true, but in my limited experience concept alone did not sell the prematurely marketed script.

I have 27 scripts from the 2005 Black List. The list is HUGE, with over 200 scoring One Vote Each.

Yeah, as Mr. Cakes pointed out, the early Black Lists were insanely large, with just about anything written on a napkin finding its way onto the list. Thankfully, they've become more manageable as time went on.

Yes, you're right, my request is overly broad. The trouble is, as Mr. Cakes pointed out, there are so darn many of those 2005 Black List scripts. I have ~60 at the moment; not a bad start, but that leaves ~150 to locate. I'm missing about half of the 2006 list. 2007 is better; only a few are missing there. I'll start by poking around for those few missing 2007 scripts, then tackle the mountains of 2005 and 2006.
