Don't get me wrong, I don't necessarily disagree with Amanda. She is right: screenwriting is an incredibly difficult, almost impossible career to achieve any kind of success in. I just think that taking career advice from someone with no actual professional screenwriting experience might not be the best way to proceed if you're serious about it. Don't let someone who doesn't really know bring you down.

Funforall, I don't think it's the industry intentionally trying to mislead aspiring writers, but rather the media's desire for a STORY. What would you rather read? "Overnight success breaks in with million dollar script sale" or "part-time screenwriter of twelve years with nineteen scripts under his belt finally scores a $10k option"? And as one poster above noted, the agents and writer want the heat associated with those big headlines, whether or not they...

  2. TB: Love how you're now adding reported sale prices to spec sales on the main site. Maybe next you can distinguish between Options vs. Sales? Thnx

Summer 2014 I believe. I only get the updates as each of the new features is completed. So far looking pretty snazzy.

How come I'm not surprised? This is why "awards" are useless and unnecessary events for the "look at me" crowd. But that's just one man's opinion.

  5. Last night's True Detective was my favorite so far.

Have they aired episode 4? HBO GO only has up to 3.

  6. Follow Up Slugline Question: What do you think the difference is between (OC) and (OS)?

      ThaVillain

I always took it to mean OC was for someone in the room but not visible (off camera), and OS was for someone in another room (off scene).

      (O.C.) is British TV/Film, (O.S.) is standard Hollywood TV/Film.

Why TB engaged for so long I have no idea. My favorite part is Franklin claiming he "won" some argument after TB said they were not going to reply to his childish tantrums, and stopped, as they said they would. So embarrasing.

    3. CliveBarks

      CliveBarks

Was Franklin looking to "out" members, or owners? I felt he was referring to those who run the site.

    4. admin

      admin

Not sure. Truthfully, I read half of it, told the team I thought replying was a mistake. Don't give in to someone else's ego trying too bully info on the internet for christs sake. Just childish all around, IMO.

  8. Taking a poll here: What's your preference for a character who is not visible, but heard - speaking on the phone (via speakerphone for ex.): (V.O.) (O.S.) or (O.C.)?

      rywold

Depending on the context, you could just put INTERCUT - PHONE CONVERSATION and write the conversation without VO or OS. I tend to prefer this.

      I like that Shadow.

I'm with you Bobby - VO just doesn't feel right. Ultimately, I think you go with whatever works best for you and adjust later if you get comments about the story being interrupted because of how you portray the phone calls . . . good luck!

    4. craktactor

      craktactor

I've used varying styles. Mostly, however, I utilize (ON PHONE) as an extension or (filtered, phone) as a parenthetical. It's all a style choice. Whatever works best in the scene and fits with the overall tone.

  9. Anyone want to weigh in on the pro's/con's of posting pilot's/features here? I'm thinking of putting one of my less representative features and a pilot I wrote up for feedback/exposure. TIA

Glad I'm not the only one having trouble finding where to donate. I did a search on the page, looked at the source code and nothing. If anybody knows where we can find a donate button or link please let us know. How can we donate if you don't make it easy for us?

I think it's a timing thing. As Red said, there are times where I see 10+ people in there but usually there's already a conversation in full swing which makes it difficult to participate. It's great when you're in the conversation though.
