  3. Hi Dalia.

A couple of years ago you read my script Magic with a MFing K and provided some good feedback.

I just posted a pilot to the Works in Progress section and would love to hear your thoughts if you have time to read. It's called High Adventure and it's similar in tone to MagicK.

    No pressure :)

  4. Little rant -- apropos of nothing... but what's the deal with websites that just offer 'Movie Transcripts'

I get that. My frustration is more your looking for a script and think you found out it only to finds its:

      Hello

      Hi

      And welcome

      Who's baby is this?

      etc

    3. drb000

      drb000

That drives me nuts. Also when you google a script and then it takes you to a website that has like 10 links that claim to have the script and none of them work. Scripts-onscreen is the worst offender

    4. egerst

      egerst

Right. I find searching for the script name and PDF is often helpful but I also feel there's a large number of click bait sites that are just optimized to have every movie and then PDF come up and theres no actual script there

  5. Looking for some good recent feature comedy specs. Anyone got one or two they'd recommend? P&T.

Very nice! Is it something you've tried adapting for screen? It's worked for a lot of other people.

  9. "Ben is Back" reaffirms that if Peter Hedges is involved, you're probably in for a rewarding experience.

  10. Do you get notes saying your dialogue doesn't sound real? Read and learn from transcripts. I'm reading this FBI one of leaker Reality Winner, which is getting turned into an Off-Broadway play soon! https://www.politico.com/f/?id=0000015e-c5e7-ddab-a57f-cfe7d5b50002

BTW - If your notes say you need to work on your action lines... practice with the linked transcript by adding the currently non-existent action lines.

Thanks Andrew, this is brilliant. Plus Reality Winner has got the best name ever for a national security whistleblower...

  12. Hey hive mind. Trying to put together a list of films that fall into the Seven Samurai/Magnificent 7/Yojimbo mold of hired pros who come to the aid of regular people/villagers. I have the usual suspects (Bugs Life, 3 Amigos, Equalizer) but I'd love some more recommends. Thanks!

I don't think the format is dead, but there is some merit to their idea. Viewing habits are changing, studios have so much invested in a film they are afraid to risk alienating the audience with an unsatisfactory ending. I love going to movies, but I am annoyed by the constant glare of cell phones in the crowd. I think theaters will always exist, but very few films on the big screen will have the influence like films of the past.

Predictability is a problem but I just saw a UK Michael Powell film from 1946 which was riveting in story and cinematography (Scorsese loves him)- David Niven in Matter of Life or Death - you're not certain if the drama is real or supernatural till the 2/3 point and perhaps not even then.

    4. stevenaz

      stevenaz

Perhaps a problem for screenwriters and older people who have seen way too many movies. But the core audience is neither. Average movie goer will continue to be entertained IMO.

  15. Looking for something to read. Any recs for decent specs from this year?

I thought it was a complete mess. IMO, it was all surface and no depth. I didn't care about a single character in it.

  18. Can anyone recommend any good comedy pilots from the last few yrs that really pushed the envelope in interesting ways? Like if Charlie Kaufman wrote a TV pilot? Thx!

  21. Top 10 comedy pilots from, say, the last five years. Anyone have any favs or dark horses. Just reviewing for education.

  22. App suggestions for screenwriting on iPad? Final Draft and Fade In have weird mobile versions. Looking for a desktop feel. Thx

Fade In is said to have a decent iOS version (https://www.fadeinpro.com/page.pl?content=comparison). I tend to use DramaQueen for actual screenwriting on my desktop/laptop, and I've recently discovered OneNote for outlining/free thinking.

just out of curiosity, which iPad are you using? I'm thinking about picking up a new iPad (9.7) for writing during the commute. Or perhaps a used iPad Pro.

      What's your preference?

    4. brandonconklin

      brandonconklin

I use the new 9.7". It's great! I wanted it for travel, and since it's Apple Pencil compatible, I figured I'd save some money rather than go with the pro

  23. Anyone located the 2018 Blood List scripts yet?

  24. Please check out my buddy Joe talking about Manos: The Hands of Fate with Chris Stuckmann

  25. Anyone have a mailing/email address for the Duplass brothers? Nothing crazy, just sending a thank you card.
